In the spirit of innovation, Outfitters Kauai has given operations a huge facelift and added six exhilarating lines to an already action-packed and popular zipline experience.
The new ziplines tie into Outfitters’ existing course, passing secluded waterfalls and offer incredible new views as guests soar above lush jungle valleys. The lines measure 1000 foot each, and feature two side-by-side cables, giving guests the unique chance to double their fun by zipping next to a friend or family member.
Outfitters has put together a diverse zipline course including platform-to-platform ziplines, centerdismount, and even a Zippel, that combines ziplining with rappelling. The center-dismount zip, like the company’s popular signature 1800 foot tandem zipline, has a unique design allowing for speeds and ride times unmatched on Kauai.
The new ziplines are intended to highlight the spectacular scenery of Kipu Ranch, made famous by movies like Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, The Descendants and more. These new lines were built with the collaborative aid of a professional zip line consultant, an island-based architect, a local pole line contractor and a Kauai helicopter company. Invasive vine and tree species such as Cat’s Claw and Java Plum have been removed by an arborist to provide for view corridors, safety clearances; making an improved environment for Hawaiian introduced trees like the Ul’u (breadfruit) and Kuku’i (candlenut).
Company Profile
Outfitters Kauai has been an innovative adventure company since they first opened doors in 1988. In 2003, Outfitters Kauai’s owner, Rick Haviland , inspired by a National Geographic article about canopy tours in Costa Rica, constructed and opened Kauai's first zipline. Nearly 10 years and 11 ziplines later, Outfitters Kauai is pushing the envelope again with their latest creation.
But innovation is nothing new to Outfitters Kauai. They have been leading the market for years, starting in 1989, when they received the first permit in the State of Hawaii to run guided sea kayak tours from State facilities. Outfitters Kauai was also an initial permitted operator of guided kayak tours of Wailua River State Park and Na Pali Coast, the 15-mile breathtaking coastline on Kauai's North Shore. And of course, the signature Waimea Canyon Bicycle Downhill tour started up in ‘94, an adventure unique to the company.

Outfitters Kauai–Kauai's innovative adventure tour leader–announces its first full summer of the Kauai Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Board Tour. This tour, which is the first of its kind in Hawaii, delivers "Big Fun in Beautiful Places" via the newest sensation in watersports. The Surftech epoxy boards that are provided are floaty, stable, and fast. This SUP tour is suitable for both the experienced paddler and the first timer–it's a great way to learn a new sport, or share it with friends or family and get turned on to the coolest new thing going. Think walking on water!
Outfitters Kauai's Kauai Stand Up Paddle Board Tour begins with a short lesson around the calm waters of the Hule'ia River. During the tranquil downwind cruise the adventurers can refine their technique while enjoying the spectacular scenery of the Hule'ia National Wildlife Refuge, ringed by the majestic Hau'pu Mountains.
This new tour also includes a one mile hike through the tropical rain forest of Kipu Ranch, where Raiders of the Lost Ark and Jurassic Park were filmed. This lovely hike leads to the secluded Bamboo Pool, home to the crowd-pleasing WaterZip—a short zip line into a waterfall-fed pool. Lunch is served on the sunny decks above Bamboo Pool. Rather than paddling back to the Outfitters' dock into often brisk tradewinds, an exotic motorized Hawaiian-style canoe ferries the adventurers back up the river as the SUPs are towed behind it.
It is not often that a new sport causes such a commotion like Stand Up Paddle Boarding has in recent years. This fun activity has exploded onto the scene providing hours of entertainment and fitness to paddlers of all ages and abilities. Now Outfitters Kauai combines this exciting new activity with the splendor and memorable beauty of Kauai. For seasoned and experienced travelers who have zip lined, kayaked and "been there, done that," Stand Up Paddle Boarding is fresh and exciting. For new visitors to Kauai, the SUP tour is a fantastic way to experience Kauai's natural beauty. Outfitters' Kauai Stand Up Paddle Board Tour, open this summer to make unforgettable family memories.
