WHAT TO EXPECT
Adventurous Paddle
Your day begins with a paddle up the Wailua River, Hawaiʻi's largest tropical river and one of Kauai's most culturally important landscapes.
As you float along, you'll pass beneath mountain ridges, tropical forests, and lush riverbanks while your guides share stories of ancient Hawaiian royalty, sacred sites, and the traditions that shaped this remarkable valley for generations.
Rainforest Hiking
After reaching the trailhead, you'll continue on foot through lush Kauai rainforest, following an adventurous trail through tropical vegetation, streams, and naturally rugged terrain. This is one of our more active hikes, with plenty of variety along the way and a real sense of adventure from start to finish.
Swimming Spot
The trail opens to reveal Secret Falls, where water cascades into a cool freshwater pool surrounded by towering cliffs and vibrant greenery. Take time to swim, capture photos, or simply soak in the peaceful surroundings before beginning the journey back downriver.

Your guide will share the stories, traditions, and natural history that make Kauai meaningful. Combined with small group sizes and decades of experience, you'll enjoy a more personal adventure from beginning to end.

frequently asked questions
What is the minimum age requirement for this trip?
This tour welcomes guests ages 5 and up. Guests must be able to hike approximately 2 miles (roundtrip) on uneven rainforest terrain and paddle a tandem kayak for 60 to 90 minutes, and the maximum kayak weight limit is 275 lbs per person. This is an active, moderate to strenuous adventure, so make sure everyone in your group, including younger paddlers, is up for a full day of movement.
Can someone still join if they don't meet the requirements?
Unfortunately, no, every guest on this tour needs to be able to complete both the paddle and the roundtrip hike to ʻUluwehi Falls, and the 275-pound kayak weight limit applies to all participants for safety. If someone in your group would prefer something gentler, our Hidden Valley Falls Kayak Adventure offers a less strenuous, more relaxed way to experience Kauaʻi from the water, with a shorter hike and a canoe ride back instead of paddling upstream.
What health concerns limit participation?
This is our most physically engaging kayak tour, rated moderate to strenuous. All guests should be comfortable with steady paddling for 60 to 90 minutes each way and hiking roughly 2 miles roundtrip on uneven, sometimes muddy rainforest trails, including river crossings. Guests with mobility limitations, heart conditions, or other concerns affected by sustained physical activity should carefully consider whether this tour is the right fit, and give us a call before booking if you have questions about a specific condition.
Can minors do the tour alone?
No, all minors must be accompanied by an adult on the tour. Guests ages 5–17 are welcome to join as long as they have an adult with them for the full adventure, from the Wailua River paddle through the jungle hike to Secret Falls and back.
